Ground Broken on New Corporate Headquarters for Sammons Financial Group in Iowa
DES MOINES, Iowa – Ground was broken today at the site of Sammons Financial Group’s new corporate headquarters within an area of West Des Moines that project general contractor The Weitz Company has built four other large offices.
The construction milestone was celebrated with a ceremony attended by hundreds of people, including employees from both Sammons Financial Group and Weitz, city and state officials, project developer KDC and project architects SVPA Architects and HKS.
At six stories and 230,000 square feet, the building will bring together all Sammons Financial Group’s local employees currently spread across three leased facilities. A significant feature will be a two-story amenity area for employees and visitors that will provide access to outdoor walking trails surrounding the property. Surface parking and a below-grade parking garage are also included in the project’s scope of work.
“Weitz is honored to be working with Sammons Financial Group on its new corporate headquarters in an area we have extreme familiarity. Our team experience from past corporate office building projects completed within a half mile of this jobsite was invaluable during preconstruction and will remain beneficial with our trade partners during construction,” said The Weitz Company Executive Vice President and General Manager Mike Tousley.
Scheduled for completion in the fall of 2020, this project for Sammons Financial Group is the fourth major office building The Weitz Company will have built around the West Des Moines intersection of Mills Civic Parkway and Jordan Creek Parkway. Weitz finished the new corporate headquarters for IMT Group in December 2018 after previously constructing campuses for Athene and Wells Fargo. Combined, the four offices will total more than 2 million square feet of tenant space and over 6 million square feet of site development.
