Shell Point Island Commons

Fort Myers, FL

Shell Point Island Commons is the second project to begin construction as part of Phase I of the retirement community’s master plan. The project is a 4-story building, encompassing 152,000 square feet on 7.23 acres adjacent to the Caloosahatchee River.

The Town Center Project will feature a commons building in the Island neighborhood, housing Shell Point’s administration and current island amenities, and serving as a new hurricane shelter for existing Independent Living Unit residents. Shell Point’s administration buildings and amenities were affected by “Category 3” water damage from Hurricane Ian. The new structure will be built atop a parking level and designed to withstand 200 mph winds, featuring 20-foot ceilings on the main floor and elevated generators to ensure critical operations—like the kitchen, dining area, and air conditioning—can continue during severe weather. The Town Center will also include a community store, a resort dining restaurant, a 30-room guest house, and various other resident amenities.
