Daniel K. Inouye International Airport Consolidated Rent-A-Car Facility (HNL CONRAC)

Honolulu, HI

Contracted to Weitz’s sister company, Contrack Watts, the new Consolidated Rent-A-Car Facility (CONRAC) at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) in Honolulu, Hawaii, significantly increases efficiency and security to better serve rental car companies and their customers.

To construct the 1.8-million-square-foot facility, the existing car rental buildings were demolished to make way for the five-level, cast-in-place concrete structure that now provides vehicular parking areas, rental agency areas, office spaces, car wash equipment and commercial fueling stations. In total, the CONRAC includes 2,250 parking stalls.

The 22-acre project was sequentially phased in Steps A, B and C. Step A was completed and ready for occupancy in December 2019. The entire project, which is LEED Gold certified, was completed in December 2021.

Building the WeitzWay

As part of the project’s pursuit of LEED Gold certification, multiple sustainable construction practices were implemented to gain points toward the certification:

  • On-site stormwater management
  • Construction waste management focused on recycling
  • Use of low-emitting materials, adhesives, sealants, etc.
  • Regionally sourced construction material, including recycled content

To account for the 29 beam sizes on Step A and nine beam sizes that will follow on Step B, the project team has leveraged the GARAGEDECK system from PERI USA. This has improved efficiency by enabling work to be performed up to 16 feet high with a single leg while easily adjusting to the varying beam sizes.
