City of Surprise Public Works Operations Facility

Located on 14 acres at the City’s South Water Reclamation property, this new Public Works Facility brings together Fleet Maintenance, Streets, Signals, and Waste Operations. The new joint-use building was designed to consolidate 4 divisions with satellite offices into one location to create an improved, cohesive, and resourceful environment. In addition, this location provides synergy and efficiencies with the City’s Water Resource Management team.

The design-build process was a collaboration between the City of Surprise, WSM Architects, Gannett Fleming, and The Weitz Company with a goal to create a space that increases efficiencies of the Public Works Department. The overall design of the facility is based on a master plan that identified the City’s current needs and allows for future growth of all departments over the next 25 years. The project includes 14 maintenance bays equipped to meet industry standards for the repair and upkeep of the safety fleet, light duty and heavy duty vehicles.

The new Operations Facility supports the City’s needs and functions including ample storage, administrative offices, training/conference rooms, break room, locker room with ice machines, shop storage, fleet vehicle maintenance shop, sign shop and storage, signals shop and storage, and solid waste materials storage. The site also has 2 vehicle wash bays, a quick lube bay, a container wash area, material storage areas, and ample parking areas for each department. A signature element to the design is the full wall vinyl application in the main office that showcases photos of the City’s fleet vehicles that were taken by a member of the City’s staff.
